The Library at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is the most important specialist academic library for the art and design of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is open to everyone. University associates and external users from Halle and its surroundings are entitled to borrow items.
Alongside its overall collection of around 97,700 media and 159 periodical magazines and journals, the Library also provides various audio-visual media for use in the library or for borrowing. The overall collection of media (with the exception of ‘Diplom’ theses, electronic media, journals and very rare or valuable literature) is stored on open shelves according to a defined cataloguing system, and most items can be borrowed.
Notices are posted to announce when guided tours of the Library will take place.

Registration
Users can register in person in the University Library. They should bring their personal ID card or passport and, where applicable, their student ID card. OPAC online catalogue
The OPAC online catalogue contains the Library’s entire collection – monographs, journals and electronic media.
Introductions to OPAC are held during semester time every Monday at 10.00 a.m. as necessary.
We also provide an e-mail reminder service.
However, the return deadline still applies and is unaffected by the reminder. The deadline must be observed even if you did not receive the e-mail due to technical problems.
