Prof. Lars Paschke
Lars Paschke, born in Dresden in 1983, first began studying gender studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 2002 and then studied fashion design in Antwerp at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 2005 to 2010.
After completing his Master's degree, he worked in numerous interdisciplinary projects in the fields of fashion, visual arts and jewellery design. For instance, he developed jewellery editions with Arielle de Pinto between 2011 and 2015, which were distributed and presented worldwide. From 2015 to 2017, Paschke worked as strategic and image director for the menswear label GOETZE. In 2018, he founded the design studio Veronica Shiitake together with Evelyn Sitter and Verena Michels, and also developed the costume design for PLANNINGTOROCK for the musical performance Powerhouse at Schauspiel Leipzig in 2018, followed by a world tour. For the artist Zuzanna Czebatul, he developed textile sculptures for the exhibitions Trip City and T-Kollaps. His aim is to expand the traditional boundaries of fashion design to explore an updated and contemporary way of working. To the interdisciplinary collaborations he adds a fashion-specific way of working that combines explorations of material culture and body politics with contemporary aesthetics and technical skills. He explores the creative dialogue that results from this collaborative practice and renegotiates the role of fashion designers in a contemporary political and social environment.
Lars Paschke has also been active in teaching for many years. Here he pursues the goal of questioning traditional notions of fashion by initiating design projects that combine industry knowledge with critical theory and experimental practice. Among other positions, Paschke was an assistant professor at the Institute for Experimental Clothing and Textile Design at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2014 to 2020, as well as a lecturer at Esmod Berlin between 2013 and 2015 and substitute professor in 2017. Since April 2020 he has held a substitute professorship for fashion design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. In 2020, he collaborated with Jana Patz on a workshop for the Fashion Educators Conference, which discussed contributions in fashion design education that are out of format of clothing, and in the same year he interviewed Giorgi Gago Gagoshidze, Hito Steyerl and Miloš Trakilović on their video work Belanciege: Mission Accomplished. In March 2021 Lars Paschke took over the professorship for fashion design at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle.
